Western Digital announced they will be shipping A new line of 2.5 inch SSD’s called the WD SiliconDrive®. The new drives will be superior if OEM embedded application such as in an automobile. Offer extreme read write speed allows for the drive to work perfectly in a multitude of applications, from the standard home user to large corporations.
WD SiliconDrive N1x SSD products feature a native SATA 3.0 gigabits per second (Gb/s) interface with target read speeds up to 240 megabytes per second (MB/s) and write transfer rates up to 140 MB/s in capacities up to 128 gigabytes (GB).
The drive comes with a 5 year limited warranty. It features advanced wearing level which will help to lengthen the life to the product. This is very important with a SSD because they will tend to having less read/write life then standard hard disk storage. It is also important to remember that there is little to no hard drive recovery options with SSD, so please keep your data backed up. On the down side it is not a very feasible solution right now for the standard user being priced at over a grand for 128 GB.
