Hard Drive Testing Services

DTI Data Testing Services

We offer a variety of hard drive testing services:

Testing – Evaluate the potential tampering of SMART attributes and evaluate SMART thresholds. Perform a complete read test of all Logical Block Addresses (LBA) to ensure the drives operate within defined thresholds.

Wiping/Sanitization – A complete wipe of all sectors performed according to NIST 800-88 or any other standard requested by our clients. Crypto-wiping is available for Self Encrypting Drives (SED) as outlined in the NIST 800-88.

Verification of Wipe/Sanitization – Verify that each sector has been overwritten with new value(s).

Hard Drive Repair – Repair physical hardware issues, move or regenerate corrupted defect lists in the manufacturer reserved area of the drive

Visual Inspections – Photograph and record visual physical damage on drives.

Mass Refurbishing – We have the equipment, staff, space and knowledge to perform all our services on hundreds of thousands of drives. No quantity is to small or large.

DTI Data offers testing, wiping, repair, and verification services for a wide range of drive types:

  • Serial ATA Drives (SATA)
  • Parallel Advanced Technology Attachment Drives(PATA or IDE)

Our over twenty years of data recovery experience has given us the knowledge, tools, and processes to provide you with the best service possible. Our unique recovery background sets us apart in the hard drive industry of aftermarket IT Asset Disposition (ITAD).

Sometimes companies find themselves in possession of large quantities of drives either from purchase or decommissioned equipment. You could scrap the drives and recycle their materials like aluminum. Or you could maximize your asset and recycle the technology. In order to do that, the drives must be tested and verified in a timely manner, en masse. We have been a pioneer in this area and we have a multi-pronged approach to get your drives ready for resale.

Each repair case is unique and the engineers in our hard drive repair testing facility use a scientific approach to analyze new drives and detect any anomalies that would prevent operation. Our process allow us to quickly grade and segregate drives to move forward with the primary testing and wiping. The drives are then analyzed for potential repair, or moved directly to the recycle que. The process we have put in place saves time and valuable assets that may have been needlessly destroyed or scrapped.

How We Test and Grade Drives

Utilizing the drive’s S.M.A.R.T attributes we can we learn about the history of the hard drives operation and past performance.

When purchasing or selling drives in large lots, it is important to analyze the drives and then grade them in a way that is consistent with their in-the-field-use. For example, if the drive is sold as new, then there are indicators on the drive that will support that. SMART indicators can prove the age and use of the drive. That being said even the most savvy sellers or buyers can be misled by these indicators. There is software that can in reset the drive to make it appear brand new. With these indicators reset it is sometimes difficult to find out if the drives are truly new.

Hard Drive Repair Tool

We have developed a system that looks beyond just the SMART hard drive indicators so we can get a more accurate drive grade than other hard drive testing. We can help ensure that the drives you are buying or selling are accurately tested.
